The hotel is located on the top (5th) floor of the building which was once the grand ballroom of The Rubens at the Palace next door to the hotel and opened in 2000. It is the smallest of London's five star hotels with 30 deluxe rooms and is noted for its classical furnishing and strong mahogany. All of the rooms are furnished in black and white fabrics with traditional mahogany furniture and Egyptian-cotton linens. The mattresses and feather duvets are handmade. The bathrooms have a separate bath and shower.

The executive lounge is located in a glass conservatory and features mahogany wood panelling and a fireplace. The hotel serves an extensive breakfast buffet, traditional afternoon tea and light snacks and evening cocktails. The Library Restaurant, located next door at the Rubens hotel is also offered to guests at the hotel. In addition to the lounge menu, the hotel has an informal dining policy, which enables guests to request virtually anything they want. Hotel 41 also offers a "raid the pantry" option, in which guests can take advantage of free snacks as they please.

Reception

The Telegraph journalist Fiona Duncan has said of the hotel:

" The door in question is on Buckingham Palace Road, next to the Rubens hotel, which Red Carnation also owns. Although it feels separate, 41 occupies the Rubens's former offices on the building's top floor, and a lift from 41's striking black and white lobby whisks you up to its striking black and white bedrooms. Front-facing rooms look down into the Royal Mews opposite - heaven for American guests. The former boardroom of the Rubens is the heart of 41, a mahogany clad "Executive Lounge" with conservatory roof, honesty bar and complimentary light buffet 24 hours a day. Black-suited staff hover, with red carnations in their buttonholes. "

The 41 hotel won the Visit London 2005: Silver award for best small hotel, and in 2007, Travel and Leisure Magazine voted it the 10th top hotel in Europe, and the 2nd in London.

In 2008 it was voted the 6th Best Hotel in Europe in Travel and Leisure's reader survey for the hotel with 'World's Best Service'. In the same survey it was rated 4th in Europe for Value for Money.

In 2009 it was voted 23rd in the worlds top Luxury Hotels and top in London.

In 2011, Hotel 41 was named as one of 'the best places in the world to stay' in Condé Nast Traveller magazine's annual Gold list.
